Joe Carter

MCGEHEE — Joe Pat Carter, 53, of McGehee died Saturday in Little Rock.

He was born Sept. 19, 1955, in Tulsa, Okla., to Gerald and Peggy Culbertson Carter.

He was reared in and received his early education in New Orleans, La. He continued his education receiving his B.S. from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and later received a master’s degree in zoology from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Joe Pat began a teaching career at Brinkley High School in Brinkley and later worked for the state of Arkansas Health Department.

He reentered the educational profession as a nursing student instructor at Seark/UAM in McGehee. His passion was education, his legacy was being a friend to mankind.

Survivors include his parents, Peggy and Gerald Carter of Star City; one brother, Michael Carter of Little Rock; two nieces, one nephew, three great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City. Bro. Bryan Diffee will officiate. Burial will be in Butler/Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
