IKE METCALF
Ike H. Metcalf, 91, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, formerly of Longview, Texas, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Trinity Village Medical Center.
He was born July 20, 1917, in Beckville, Texas, son of Ike and Louisa Browning Metcalf.
Mr. Metcalf was reared and received his early education in Beckville and Tatum, Texas, graduating from Tatum High School. He attended Sam Houston State University on a football scholarship and earned his bachelor’s degree there.
He served in the United States Navy as a naval aviator during World War II.
After Mr. Metcalf returned from World War II, he worked for Continental Emsco his entire working life.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Longview, Texas.
Mr. Metcalf was preceded in death by his wife, Irline Lowry Metcalf, whom he married March 28, 1948, in Longview; his parents; daughter, Virginia Ann Graves; three brothers, Bob Metcalf, Red Metcalf and Curtis Metcalf; and sister, Anna Fay Byrd.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Irl Graves of Seabrook, Texas and Richard L. Metcalf of Pine Bluff; sister, Lila Efurd of Shreveport, La.; three grandchildren, David Gregory Graves, John Richard Graves and Marlie Graves Collini; and nine great-grandchildren, Chelsea Granero, Christopher Collini, Nicolas Collini, Amanda Graves, Lauren Graves, John Graves Jr., Sarah Graves, Matthew Graves and Abbey Graves.
Funeral services were 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. David Fleming officiating.
