PORT CITY SPEED EXPERIENCES SUCCESS IN LITTLE ROCK

Members of the Port City SPEED AAU Track and Field Club fared well at two Arkansas District Qualifying meets last month at Little Rock’s Scott Field. Port City SPEED sent 34 athletes to the meets on June 6 and 20, with 30 of them receiving awards.
One of the top finishers for PCS was the primary girls’ 400-meter relay team. Comprised of 7-year-olds, the team of Praise Malone, Tenerika Robertson, Lakencia Holmes and Sydni Booth went undefeated in the two meets, with a best time of 1:10.8.
The midget (11-year-olds) girls doubled up their medal count. The team of Diamond Compton, Briana Malone, Tarondia Thomas and Tamia Thomas took second place in the 400 relay with a time of 1:01.49 and third place in the 1,600 relay with a time of 5:40.9.
The youth girls (13-year-olds) relay team of Eriya Hobbs, LaPorshia Cartright, Endya Allen and Charese Simpson also placed second in the 400 relay with a time of 55:09 and fourth in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:59.7.
Other PCS relay teams receiving awards were Michael Maxwell, James Wilkes, Letrell Cayton and Mikeal Cayton who placed third in the Bantom boys’ 400 meter relay the team of Kyrese Banks, Dejuan Gilbert, Christian Owens, and Jerome Willis who placed third in the Young Men's division of the 1,600 meter relay.
Those receiving individual first place awards include: Praise Malone, Briana Malone, Kaitly James and Lakendria Holmes.
Second place awards went to Endya Allen, Banks, Eriya Hobbs, T’Cara Malone, Quintez Richardson and Jerome Willis.
Those winning third place awards include: Allen, LaGaarius Cartwright, Diamond Compton, Dejuan Gilbert, Eriya Charese Simpson and Tarondia Thomas.
PCS will travel to Edwardsville, Ill., on July 17 to compete in a National Qualifier Meet. Athletes clocking the top four times in each event will advance to the 2009 AAU National Junior Olympics, which are being held in Des Moines, Iowa, in August.
