A Missouri man who was a passenger in a car involved in an accident Thursday on the south side of Pine Bluff died Friday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Police Lt. Bob Rawlinson said Lawrence Johnson, 30, of Kansas City, Mo., was pronounced dead at JRMC at about 9:30 a.m. Friday as the result of massive upper body trauma sustained in the accident.
Rawlinson said Johnson was a passenger in a 1994 Lincoln Towncar driven by Albert Harvey, 44, of Pine Bluff that disregarded a red light at the intersection of U.S. 65B (Martha Mitchell Expressway) and Market Street (U.S. 63 / U.S. 79) at about 6 a.m. The car was struck by a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by Dustin Young, 25, of Pine Bluff.
Police said Young was northbound on the expressway when Harvey’s vehicle turned in front of him, and the truck struck the passenger side of the town car.
Young and Harvey were both taken to JRMC for treatment, a report from police Traffic Officer David Ellington said. The report also indicated that it was raining and the roadway was wet at the time of the accident.
The death was the third traffic fatality of 2009, Rawlinson said, and the investigation is continuing.
