FISH-OFF TO OPEN POLICE FISHING DERBY SATURDAY

A number of dignitaries will help to kick off a fishing derby and other activities for kids and senior citizens Saturday at Martin Luther King Jr. park.
The event, sponsored by the police department and the city of Pine Bluff, will also include free food, prizes, and back to school supplies and will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Lt. David Price said Mayor Carl Redus Jr., several members of the city council, Sheriff Gerald Robinson, Pine Bluff Police Chief John Howell, Chief Maxie Thomas of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Police Department, Fire Department Chief Jimmy Brown, UAPB Chancellor Dr. Lawrence A. Davis Jr., City Clerk Loretta Whitfield, City Attorney Carol Billings, and the superintendents of the Pine Bluff, Watson Chapel and Dollarway School Districts have all committed to participate in a “fish-off” which will open the day.
Kids under 15 and senior citizens 55 and over are invited to take part in the fishing derby, and must bring their own fishing equipment. For more information, contact the police department’s public relations office at 850-2400.
