  • James Brown, a soul singer, is scheduled to appear at Hestand Stadium at 8:30 tomorrow night.

Along with Brown will be Bobby Byrd, Betty Wright, Honey and the Bees, the James Brown Dancers and James Brown’s New Band.

  • Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and Grant County Sheriff Lewis Shirron located one of the largest crops of marijuana ever found growing in Arkansas on May 12 near the Jefferson-Grant County line.

Shirron took some of the small plants and re-planted them in his garden at Sheridan. The plants grew to almost 10 feet in height before he disposed of them last week. The sheriff, who said he planned to lecture civic groups and teenagers on marijuana, preserved parts of the plants for display.
