MOST WANTED SUSPECTS CAUGHT IN KANSAS, N. LITTLE ROCK

By Ray King/OF THE COMMERCIAL STAFF
Tuesday, September 22, 2009 11:04 PM CDT

One of Jefferson County’s Most Wanted felons was arrested without incident Monday after he attracted the attention of a Kansas Highway Patrol officer near Newton, Kan., and a second person, on the list since 2007, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in North Little Rock.

Sheriff’s Capt. Bernard Adams said Patrick Thomas Traywick Jr., 37, who was on the August Most Wanted list, was stopped by the trooper in Harvey County, Kansas, at about 6:45 p.m., and a records check indicated Traywick was wanted by Jefferson County authorities.

“Kansas has no charges on him and he’s being held on our warrants,” Adams said.

Tuesday afternoon, Adams said federal marshals located Jazmine Johnson, 28, while conducting a stakeout at an apartment complex in North Little Rock, and after taking her into custody, turned her over to Jefferson County authorities.

Traywick, also known as P. Thomas Traywick and Patrick T. Traywick, was being sought on a warrant issued in January 2004 after he failed to appear for a court hearing on Dec. 9, 2003, that sought to revoke his probation on charges of residential burglary, theft of property, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He was also listed as an absconder by the Arkansas Department of Community Correction.

Adams said Kansas authorities took Traywick to court Tuesday afternoon and he waived extradition and will voluntarily return to the state to face the allegations.

“We will probably be going to get him by the end of this week or the first of next week,” Adams said.

Johnson was first placed on the most wanted list in 2007, but her criminal history goes back to May 13, 2003, when she failed to appear for plea and arraignment on 13 counts of second-degree forgery and an arrest warrant was issued.

“She’s been on the run from us,” Adams said. “We put her in the newspaper and on our Web site and she actually called the sheriff’s office a few times and said she was going to turn her self in but never showed up. She even came up to the courthouse to one of the judges’ offices and asked about her charges but they didn’t call us until after she had left.”

Adams said the break resulting in Johnson’s arrest came after the department received several tips indicating she might be staying at an apartment in North Little Rock near Shorter College.

“We contacted the marshal’s service and they set up surveillance on the apartment and they got her when she came walking up,” Adams said.

Johnson was taken to the county detention center where she was held without bond pending an expected court appearance today.
