PB STUDENTS CHOSEN FOR ALL-REGION ORCHESTRAS

SPECIAL TO THE COMMERCIAL

The 2009 Southern All-Region Orchestras will include 20 from the Pine Bluff High School and Jack Robey Junior High School Orchestras. Auditions were held Sept. 26 in Little Rock. The students will participate in clinics, rehearsals and concerts Oct. 9-10 at Conway High School. Students are:

High school All-Region Orchestra:

Violin: Rachel Parker, Joshua Jasper, and alternate Bailey Hamilton

Viola: Ryan Harris, alternate

Cello: Jacob Sturgeon

Bass: Gilbert Byrd, and alternates Joseph Treadwell and Theodis Shavers.

Junior high All-Region String Orchestra:

Violin: Ariana Woods, concert mistress, Richaundra Randle, JaLia Steward, Christina Hood, Sabrina Hood, Blaise Hale, and alternate Ryan Tillar

Viola: Shanta Futch, Victoria Grady, Andrea Williams

Cello: Colby Hamilton and Alexus Bland, alternates.

The Pine Bluff High School Orchestra is directed by Edmond Hampton and Christie Bonds. Ellen Stutchman is the director of the Jack Robey Junior High School Orchestra, assisted by Ellen Nuckolls. Special to The Commercial

The 2009 winners of the Southeast Arkansas District Livestock Show, Rodeo and Fair parade Monday have been announced. Recipients received $75 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place and $25 for 3rd place.

Winners in the school category are:

  • 1st place, Pine Bluff High School

  • 2nd place, W.T. Cheney Elementary School

  • 3rd place, Watson Chapel Schools

    In the commercial category the winners are:

  • 1st place, Davis Life Care

  • 2nd place, Wing Stop

  • 3rd place, Arkansas Convalescent Center

    In the miscellaneous category the winners are:

  • 1st place, Warren’s Body Shop

  • 2nd place, Cotton Belt Museum

  • 3rd place, Dub Koenig

    In the youth category the winners are:

  • Grace Episcopal Church Girl Scouts

  • Christian Debutantes

    In the horse-related category the winners are:

  • Thomas Buggy

  • Pine Bluff Saddle Club

  • Charles Chambers
