WEED AND SEED WILL HOST RED RIBBON EVENTS

The University Park and Central Park Weed and Seed Programs are collaborating with other agencies to host Red Ribbon activities Wednesday.

At 9 a.m., Pine Bluff School Board member the Rev. Jimmy L. Fisher Sr. will address students at Greenville Elementary School. McGruff, the Crime Dog, will also visit with students.

At 1:30 p.m. at Southeast Middle School, William J. Bryant, special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration from Little Rock will be the guest speaker.

Students at both schools will have opportunities to win basketballs, footballs and baseballs that have been autographed by UAPB’s Athletic director, football, basketball, baseball head coaches along with their players, the Jefferson County sheriff, Pine Bluff mayor, Pine Bluff police chief and city and county elected officials.

Senior Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Hunter will lead Southeast students in the Drug Free Pledge. The Greater Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Club and the Distinguished Young Gentlemen of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. will issue special cards and Red Ribbon wrist bands. W.T. Cheney sets Red Ribbon week

W.T. Cheney Elementary School began observing Red Ribbon Week Monday with a Ronald McDonald show. Other activities include:

  • Today, cheerleaders from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will visit grades K-5 at 1:15 p.m.

  • Wednesday, a magician will visit grades K-2 at 9 a.m. and grades 3-5 at 10 a.m.

  • Thursday, a policeman will address grades K-2 at 1:15 p.m. and grades 3-5 at 2:15 p.m.

    Friday, the Pine Bluff Harbor City Corvette Club will participate at 1:30 p.m. with grades K-5.

    Jack Robey announces Red Ribbon program

    The Jack Robey Junior High School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring the Red Ribbon Celebration this week.

    A special assembly will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with Sheriff Gerald Robinson as the speaker. The Jack Robey Band of Pride, cheerleaders, Robey Singers, students and teachers will also participate.

    Students are encouraged to help themselves, families, friends, and the community become drug free. Each student has received a drug free bracelet or a button to kick off the celebration.

    Activities also include viewing educational DVDs and videos via Channel One about drug abuse, a poetry writing contest, signing drug-free pledge cards, a sock it to drugs day, a tie a knot in drugs day and a door decorating contest.
