Roger Wyatt

WHITE HALL — Roger Dale Wyatt, age 66, of White Hall, died at his residence Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009.

Mr. Wyatt was born April 6, 1943, in Pine Bluff, a son of the late Robert Guy “Sam” Wyatt and Ivy Nugent Wyatt.

Mr. Wyatt was reared and received his education in Pine Bluff. He was a 1961 graduate of Pine Bluff High School and a 1965 graduate of Arkansas State University with a bachelor of arts degree in English. Mr. Wyatt taught journalism at White Hall High School for 42 years, retiring July 15, 2009. While teaching at the school, he was the yearbook sponsor and in charge of the landscaping. Mr. Wyatt lettered in both basketball and baseball in high school and was on Pine Bluff High’s first state championship baseball team in 1959. He also played basketball at Arkansas State University. He is a past winner of a White Hall Chamber of Commerce Clara Burton Education Award.

He was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He was a member of the Arkansas Education Association, the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Mr. Wyatt was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel “Sammy” Wyatt, Robert “Buddy” Wyatt and Herbert Wyatt; two sisters, Ruby Wyatt Campbell and Nancy Wyatt.

He is survived by three sisters, Margaret “Margie” Blythe of Memphis, Tenn., Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Schulze of Little Rock and Shirley VanderWal of Lake Jackson, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Rev. Elwin Ollar officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson’s Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
