He laid out a scale, gold testing kit and laptop, along with other tools of his trade, on a desk. Three of his co-workers also were similarly situated in a conference room at Pine Bluff’s Ramada Plaza & Suites.
“We love dealing with the people,” Herr said. “We love doing what we’re doing.”
Southeast Arkansas residents can visit the roadshow this week at the Ramada Plaza to sell their gold, silver, coins, old toys, sports memorabilia and other vintage items.
The roadshow will be open today through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Herr said the roadshow is better than a pawnshop.
“We’ll pay better,” he said. “Hands down, we’ll pay better.”
Herr warned that just because something is valuable doesn’t mean he’ll be able to purchase it.
“There’s lots of stuff that we want that we can’t buy,” he said.
Curtistean Everett and Robert Blunt waited in the Ramada Plaza’s lobby Tuesday for the roadshow to open.
Blunt showed off an old photograph of Joe Louis and a telephone made to look like a Pepsi-cola box he said he bought at an auction.
Everett sat beside two suitcases she said were full of jewelry.
“This isn’t even half of it,” she said.
Everett also had a gold microphone she said belonged to her aunt, a local singer.
“She was a star in her own right,” Everett said.
Herr walked up to the two to tell them the roadshow would soon be opened.
He touched the gold microphone.
“I haven’t seen one of those in a while.”
