WATER PARKS CONSIDERED, NEW BUDGET PASSED

Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Commission recently discussed a possible water park in the city limits with two representatives of ETC Engineers and Architects Inc. of Little Rock.

Mizan Rahman and Perry Carr presented different ideas at the commission’s meeting last week including an indoor and outdoor facility with a lazy river for floating.

“I used the opportunity to develop a plan,” Rahman said.

Commissioners could add or subtract features from the possible water park plans as they saw fit, he added.

“My original dream was something a little smaller, but maybe that’s something we can work towards,” said commission chair Chris Castoro. “My original concept was just a little splash park.”

Commissioners said they would consider the ideas and consult with Mayor Carl A. Redus Jr. and other community members about the project.

In other business, the commission passed a revised 2010 budget.

“(Redus) said they’re not adding to anybody’s budget this year,” said parks director Angela Parker.

The first 2010 budget passed by the commission requested about $907,000 in city funding.

The second 2010 budget requests the same as granted this year, about $858,000.

“We’re having to cut some,” Parker said.
