By The Commercial Staff
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 12:15 AM CST

An 82-year-old Stuttgart man was killed Sunday when the vehicle he was driving ran off the road near Stuttgart and overturned several times.

A preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police said Johnnie E. Longnecker was northbound on U.S. 79 north of Stuttgart at 11:25 a.m., when the 2008 Chevrolet he was driving went off the right side shoulder of the road, went down an embankment, then returned to the roadway and overturned.

Cpl. Ray Siggers reported that Longnecker was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Stuttgart Regional Hospital where he died.

The death was the 509th reported on the state’s highways so far this year.
