ALTERCATION LEADS TO REPORTED STABBING

A reported altercation on the front porch of a house in the Dollarway area Wednesday night resulted in one man going to the hospital and a second to the county detention center.

During a court hearing Thursday, Circuit Judge Berlin Jones ruled prosecutors had probable cause to charge Darryl Craig, 44, with first-degree battery, based on an affidavit from Detective Sgt. Rick Hill.

Reading from that affidavit, Deputy Prosecutor Rik Ramsey said police were sent to a reported stabbing at 5505 Hoover St., at 7:31 p.m., and found the victim Billy Sanders had already been taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Sanders’ mother and other witnesses told officers that Sanders and Craig “had words” and Sanders’ mother said she went in the house to call 9-1-1 when she heard a loud noise and discovered her son had been stabbed in the stomach, Hill reported in the affidavit.

Ramsey said Craig was still at the house and was arrested, and officers went to the hospital where they learned Sanders had received a one and-a-half inch wide by four inch deep wound to the stomach.

The judge set a $5,000 bond for Craig, who Ramsey said had no prior convictions, and ordered him to have no contact with Sanders until the case is settled.

Also Thursday, Jones set a $5,000 bond for Candra Litzsey, 35, after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with second-degree battery.

Reading from an affidavit from Detective Ralph Issac, Ramsey said police went to the Crown Inn at 321 W. Fifth Ave., at 4:30 p.m., where they were met by Litzsey, who took them to room 319.

Ramsey said officers found a 10-year-old boy, who was identified as Litzsey’s son, laying on the floor with “two inch cuts” on the front and back of the legs and on the back. The boy reportedly said the injuries were inflected by Litzsey.

Issac said the injuries were reportedly caused by Litzsey using a switch on the boy.

Questioned by the judge, Ramsey said the affidavit did not indicate the current whereabouts of the boy, nor that of a second child who was also reportedly in the room when police arrived.

In addition to setting the bond, the judge ordered Litzsey, who Ramsey said had three prior convictions but nothing pending, to have no contact with the boy until the case is settled.
