‘NO PLACE LIKE HOME’ FOR UAPB’S NEW BUSINESS DEAN

Leaders from the city’s areas of government, business and education gathered at the Greater Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce Tuesday evening to welcome Carla Meadows Martin home.

Martin is the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s new dean of the School of Business. She’s also a Pine Bluff native and a UAPB graduate.
“There’s no place like home,” she said. “And I am happy to be home.”
Martin said she’s excited to work with students and members of the community to achieve excellence.
She started work in October and brings experience as a former practicing lawyer at the Brown and McKissic Law Firm. Martin also held a position as the senior manager for supplier diversity at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in Bentonville.
“I’m looking forward to working with her,” said Mayor Carl A. Redus Jr. “And it’s good to have her back home.”
Joy Blankenship, executive director of Pine Bluff Downtown Development Inc., said Martin is enthusiastic.
“She is going to light a fire,” Blankenship said. “This will be another avenue for bridging the gap between the university and downtown.”
