WHITE HALL — The Pine Bluff Chemical Agent Disposal Facility achieved a safety milestone Nov. 13 when it completed a year without a recordable injury.
“That sounds like a simple statement, but it is one of the most amazing accomplishments in the history of the chemical demilitarization program,” David Reber, project general manager, said. “A year without a recordable injury means that our employees watched out for each other every day and made sure that we had no serious work related injuries.”
The Global Security Group of URS Corp. is the systems contractor that operates PBCDF for the Army. The facility uses incineration technology to destroy chemical agents stockpiled at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.
A year without a recordable injury is the first time this safety milestone has been achieved by a chemical demilitarization site, officials said. In July, PBCDF was also the first chemical demilitarization site to achieve 1 million hours without a recordable injury.
“The Chemical Materials Agency appreciates the outstanding safety performance of the workforce at our project,” said Clara Moraga, PBCDF acting site project manager.
PBCDF employs more than 700 workers and subcontractors.
