Jason Irby, author of “Love Within Life: So, You Want to Stop Violence,” and state Sen. Stephanie Flowers of Pine Bluff, will host a National Domestic Violence Awareness Month event.

The session will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Flowers’ office, 217 Main St. Local experts will focus on the topic of violence, resolutions and community responsibility. Free refreshments will be served.

Presenters will include Adrian Gardner, professor at the University of Central Arkansas - coordinator of the Domestic Violence Forum at UCA; Judge Rita Bailey of Pulaski County; Flowers of District 25 and senate committee chairwoman; Robert Sturd, a retired officer of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department; Mayor-Elect Shirley Washington of Pine Bluff; Delois B. King, a former teacher; the Rev. Benny Johnson of Arkansas Stop The Violence; Tiffney Lewis, a financial services representative; Kim Jones Sneed, founder/publisher of Stuff In The Bluff; Dorcas Vangilst, director of Women’s Ministries at Dorcas House; Nyeshia Aldridge, director of the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County; Pine Bluff Fire Department officials; University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Small Farm Program; Essence of a Woman, UAPB Mentoring Program; and Stamp Out Smoking representative.

According to Irby, his book has inspired him to create an Awareness, Wellness and Choices Fair to address issues such as domestic violence, child abuse, bullying, peer pressure and other inappropriate behaviors.
