She had a life blessed by family and leaves behind sons and daughters-in-love; Jay Linlie Whaley and Lawana of Hot Springs, Ark. and James D. West, Jr. and Lori of Hope, Ark.; her grandchildren, Marian A. (Lonnie) Lynch of Pea Ridge, Ark., Jay Linlie Whaley II of White Hall, Ark., Reed H.M. She supported the war effort as a bomb loader at the Pine Bluff Arsenal during WWII. She, along with other family members, was a faithful caregiver to her mother until her passing. Afterwards, she moved from Arkansas to Alaska with her husband James and her two sons. She worked and retired from Fort Richardson Army Base in Anchorage. She lived in Eagle River, Alaska until the death of her husband in 1979, at which time she moved back to the family home in White Hall, Ark., but continued to spend time with family in Alaska at every opportunity.

She carried her mother’s legacy for needlework into her ribbon award winning quilting, embroidery and crochet pieces which will be treasured by family for generations to come. A family birthday celebration was never complete without her German chocolate cake and her presence. She never passed up an opportunity to educate herself and always stayed interested in current events and politics and encouraged the younger members of her family to do the same. Mrs. Edith will be missed by all who loved her.
