Annie Bitely Baker, age 94, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, December 29, 2016. Born February 6, 1922 near Grady, she was a daughter of the late Merchant Hamilton Bitely, Sr. and Nina Alice Nelson Bitely, and grew up on the family farm at Huff’s Island with her six brothers and three sisters

She graduated from Linwood School and attended Arkansas A&M (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello). She also was a teacher and substitute teacher in the Linwood schools.

A longtime member of Linwood Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and was director of the Women’s Missionary Union for many years. After moving to Pine Bluff, she became a member of First Baptist Church.

Annie had a passion for gardening, and was a gifted floral arranger. She used these talents to become a 4-H Club instructor. She was well-known for her designing and crocheting talents. Also an excellent cook, and enjoyed using her culinary talents for her family, friends, and anyone in need. She was a devoted wife and mother, a wonderful homemaker, was well-loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Raymond E. Baker, Sr., with whom she enjoyed being a world traveler, visiting four continents. Also predeceasing her are six brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn Cromer (Tom), Mary Ellen Walker (Jerry), and Raymond E. Baker, Jr.; grandchildren, Sarah Reynolds (Adam), Tim Cromer (Lauren), Lori Natsyn (Charles), Jereme Walker (Val), and Chris Baker (Becky); seven great-grandchildren with one “on the way”; a sister, Lucille Eifling; and a sister-in-law, Betty Sue Mata.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017, 2 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Brother Kenneth Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in Nicholson Cemetery near Tamo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel Street, Pine Bluff, Ark. 71603; Trinity Village, 6300 Trinity Drive, Pine Bluff, Ark. 71603; or charity of the donor’s choice.
