International House of Praise, 1002 E. Eighth Ave., will celebrate its 13th anniversary at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Tommy Breamsey Sr., pastor of First Baptist Church (Dew Drop). Other guests include Pleasant View Ministries Church and Wheeler Chapel Baptist Church.


Pine Bluff Women’s Community Choir will rehearse at 7 p.m. Fridays, Jan. 13, 20, and 27, at New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church, 3319 Ohio St. The choir is preparing for Songs of Praise 60. Stewart Memorial CME Church, 911 S. Maple St., invites the community to its annual men’s and women’s day program at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Chestine Sims, pastor of Union AME Church at Little Rock. The choir will be directed by Bessie Lancelin.

Special events

SONlite Ministries, 5103 W. Malcomb St., will sponsor the 50th birthday celebration of the pastor, Jenise “Sandy” Blake, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8. There will be singers, dancers and worshippers. Everyone is invited to attend. After the service, refreshments will be served in the gym. Also, women preachers are invited to the “Pretty Feet” Contest (Romans 10:15). This contest is open to women preachers who are licensed, ordained or authorized by their pastors and are actively preaching outside of their local church. The woman with the prettiest shoes will win $100.

A musical celebration will be held honoring the pastor, Sheryl Banks for her 60th birthday.Banks and the apostle, Craig Banks, lead Canaan Christian Center. The celebration will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Highland Baptist Church, 1320 S. Peach St. All musicians and singers are invited to join a mass choir directed by Elder Dedric Jones. Voices of Deliverance gospel singers will host a benefit for Linda Dolls at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4807 W. Sixth Ave. Voices of Deliverance will also hold a fund-raising dinner from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 14. Meals will cost $6 and plates include barbecue leg quarters, baked beans, potato salad, cake and drink. Proceeds will go toward the benefit program. Details: 870-643-4974.

New Town Missionary Baptist Church, 3600 W. Second Ave., will host the Rev. Xavier Diamond, associate minister of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church of Dumas, at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8.

The Remnant Ministry will host an event entitled “Fatal Attraction” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13-14, at House of Bread Deliverance Church, 500 S. Main St. Topics will include rape, revenge, murder and domestic violence.
