High school seniors planning to pursue a degree in horticulture or other agriculture-related fields are eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship named in honor of extension horticulture specialist Janet Carson.
The scholarship is being offered by County 76, the statewide advisory group for the Arkansas Master Gardener program, part of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture’s Cooperative Extension Service.
The amount will apply to the 2017-18 academic year. The deadline to apply is March 10.
“This scholarship is a way to encourage those who desire a career in one of the horticulture or agriculture-related fields,” said Julie Treat, an extension horticulture program technician with the Division of Agriculture. “These fields can include botany, agronomy, forestry, plant science, turf management, landscape architecture or landscape design.”

It is anticipated that the scholarships will be awarded in May 2017.
