Anniversaries


Freedom Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will observe its 22nd anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Ray Harper, pastor of West Macedonia Church of Keo, along with his congregation. The community is invited.


St. John Missionary Baptist Church at Mitchellville will present the eighth appreciation of its pastor, the Rev. T.R. Ramey, at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Gene E. McElroy.


Living Word Baptist Church, 5617 Sulphur Spring Road, will celebrate its fifth anniversary Sunday, Feb. 12. At 11 a.m., the speaker will be the Rev. Mark Stephens, pastor of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at McGehee. At 3 p.m., the guest minister will be the Rev. Aaron Barnes, pastor of New Home Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


St. Luke AME Church, 9908 Princeton Pike, will celebrate its 133rd anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Johnny Kelley, presiding elder for the Pine Bluff/Helena District.


Black History


Almeta Missionary Baptist Church at Reedville will hold its annual Black History observance at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Alvin Newborn, pastor of Polk Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Yorktown, accompanied by the ushers. Dinner will be served after service.


St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church, 5810 W. Malcomb St., will host its Black History program and soul food dinner at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12.


Union Missionary Baptist Church, 609 E. 24th Ave., will hold its annual Black History program at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. A skit will be performed and a soul food dinner will be served.


First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 800 S. Catalpa St., will observe Black History Month at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The women’s department, Sunshine Band, and the youth department will present a “Poetry Café” featuring the works of Paul Laurence Dunbar, Langston Hughes and Dudley Randall.


New Hope CME Church, 901 E. 21st Ave., will observe its Black History program at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Jeremy Cegers of Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church.


Ezekiel Missionary Baptist Church, will celebrate Black History Month at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. Michael Rogers will make a presentation and the speaker will be Clifton R. White of Little Rock, an associate minister of Ezekiel.


Concerts/musicals


Reynolds Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 706 S. Cypress St., will present a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. Guests will include the Voices of Deliverance, Sensational Soul Revivals of Pine Bluff, and Ellen Hardin, an evangelist from Greenville, Mississippi.


St. John AME Church, 1117 W. Pullen St., will host a concert featuring the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017. The concert will feature traditional choral compositions, spirituals and gospel selections. The concert is free and open to the public. The Vesper Choir is celebrating its 70th anniversary.


Main Street Church of God in Christ, 2901 S. Main St., will host its annual Valentine’s musical and musicians’ appreciation honoring the Rev. Gerren Heard Sr. and Darius Heard, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. Participants will include Main Street Inspirational Choir, Michelle Johnson, Meia Hellums, Highland Sanctuary Choir, Canaan Christian Center Praise Team and Etoya Williams of Monticello. Words of encouragement will be by Sheryl Banks, pastor of Canaan Christian Center.


Barnett Chapel Baptist Church, 1321 Birch St., will host a musician’s appreciation for Malvin Red Minor at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. Guest groups will include Pure Purpose, Angels of Praze, Men of Christ and the Sensational Soul Revivals.

Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church, 2312 Fluker St., will celebrate its annual women’s day Sunday, Feb. 12. At 10:45 a.m., the speaker will be Elouise Shorter, a financial secretary and a member of Kings Highway. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington, a member of Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church.


Special events


New Town Missionary Baptist Church, 3600 W. Second Ave., will host the Rev. Gerald Parker, associate minister of Pilgrim Progress Missionary Baptist Church at North Little Rock, at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12.


New Direction Missionary Baptist Church, 3000 S. Louisiana St., will present the 4th annual birthday preaching bowl and scholarship presentation at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. Ministers include the Revs. Omar Davis, Frank Harris Jr., Learthur Shelton, R.C. Barnes, Stephen T. Robinson, Brandon Dyer and Donnell McTyler.


Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., will observe the 52nd annual Valentine Heart service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 The guest speaker will be state Sen. Stephanie Flowers, a member of Mt. Pleasant AME Church. The Cosmopolitan Choir, directed by K.S. Horton, and the Mass Choir of Eighth Avenue will sing. The attire is red or white.


Prayer Garden Revival Center, 3302 S. Georgia St., will host a service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, featuring Kyrius Davis and other praise dancers.


Whispering Pines Cowboy Church, 6912 Old Warren Road, will show the movie, War Room, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18.. The event is free and the community is invited to attend.


Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 2915 S. Main St., will hold its installation of officers at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Stanley Blair, pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.


Victory Faith Church, 1517 S. Poplar St., will host a Prophetic Faith Summit at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Feb. 15-17. The pastor, the Rev. K.D. Mixon Sr., will be the speaker. Also, Victory Faith will hold a service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12.

Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St., will present its annual youth day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Royce Jackson Jr., associate minister of Wade Chapel Church at Star City. Guests also include the Gospel Temple Youth Choir.
