The 20th Great Backyard Bird Count is Friday through Monday, Feb. 17-20, according to a spokeswoman with the Three Rivers Audubon Society.

“It is a worldwide citizen scientist event which in previous years has reported sightings of half the known species of birds worldwide,” the spokeswoman said.

During the event, participants should count birds for 15 minutes on one or more of those days and then enter the sightings at or call Claire Holmes, 534-2083.

Another way to participate in the bird count is to join the Audubon Society field trip Saturday, Feb. 18. Participants will meet at 8 a.m. in the commuter parking lot at Exit 34 off Interstate 530 and car pool or caravan to Two Rivers Park near the Arkansas River, north of Little Rock.
