The Rev. Jesse C. Turner, Pine Bluff Cares affiliate leader, recently attended the National Cares Mentoring Movement Leadership Summit at New York.
Turner, who is also executive director of Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc., attended the session Jan. 27-29.
Fifty-Eight Cares affiliates across the nation met at the Grand Hyatt New York to receive leadership training aimed at advancing the movement’s strategy, according to a news release.
Training included the movement’s signature program, “The Rising,” Elevating Education, Expectations, and Self-Esteem, which is being implemented in four states.
Strategies regarding the University for Parents, Board Development, Fundraising, Financial Management and Wellness Circles were part of the training.
“The primary role for Pine Bluff Cares is mentor recruitment to support youth-serving organizations in our city,” Turner said in the release.
Pine Bluff Cares is seeking adults who will volunteer one hour a week in the Pine Bluff, Dollarway and Watson Chapel school districts. All mentors will receive training, a background check and be deployed within the school districts or to any organization working with youngsters, according to the release.
