The AARP Smart Driver Safety Course will be taught from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in the Henslee Conference Center at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

The course will be taught by Jim Bacon, a certified instructor. The course is for people 50 and older and covers the normal changes that occur with aging, such as vision, hearing and reaction time.

Arkansas state law enables drivers to receive a discount on their automobile insurance for three years after completing the course. Each participant who finishes the driver’s course will receive a certificate of completion that is valid for three years.

The course is a four-hour multimedia session that includes DVD presentations, a participant’s manual and classroom discussion. There is no test to pass.

The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-AARP members. Fees are payable to AARP at the time of the class. Participants should bring a valid driver’s license.
