Pine Bluff School District’s annual Knowledge Bowl will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative, 912 W. Sixth Ave.


Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington will be the moderator for the event. Washington issued a proclamation declaring the Feb. 20-24 as “Knowledge Bowl Week” in the city of Pine Bluff.


Knowledge Bowl is sponsored by the Title I Parent and Family Resource Center for grades 4-8. Parents and students will compete in a Jeopardy type competition answering questions about contributions and achievements of Arkansas heroes and famous African-Americans. They will also address STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) questions.


There will be one overall elementary, and one overall middle school/junior high winner. The elementary and middle school/junior high overall winners will receive cashiers’ checks. All student participants will receive Knowledge Bowl medallions and all school winners will receive trophies.


Preliminary contests were held at the schools and the following are the winners and alternate winners:

Southwood: North Winner — Omiyah Bullard, daughter of Crystal and Arron Lewis; North Alternate Winner — Danny Johnson, son of Candace Johnson; South Winner — Kaitlyn McKay, daughter of Shawani Milton; South Alternate Winner — Tyler Nelson, son of Tony Nelson;


Thirty — Fourth: North Winner — Adrienna Green, daughter of Beuke Jackson; North Alternate Winner — Josilyn Kearney, daughter of Brandon Kearney; South Winner — Xavier Smith, son of Monica Smith; South Alternate Winner — Haileigh Weatherspoon, daughter of Michell Haywood;


W.T. Cheney: North Winner — Naja Hulsey, daughter of Joyce Hulsey; North Alternate Winner — Erionna Mosley, daughter of Vernitta Love; South Winner — Robert Barnes, son of Lakesha Hodges; South Alternate Winner — Olivia Evans, daughter of Erika Evans;


Belair: North Winner — Malachi McDonald, son of Markeasha McDonald; North Alternate Winner — Markavion English, son of Victoria Webb; South Winner — Nya Steward, daughter of Timmy Perry;
