The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.


The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:


• Dollar Tree, 2709 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection into complaint Jan. 26 (1:49 p.m.) Floors in back storage room leading to restroom have standing water and need to be cleaned; floors were cleaned of standing water during inspection (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.)


• Dollar Tree, 2709 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 26 (2:12 p.m.) Some food being stored in back dry storage is being stored directly on the ground; food being stored should be at least 6 inches off of the ground (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) • 28TH St. Exxon Address: 2901 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 26. Some hot holding temperatures in hot box out of safe temperature range (must be 135 degrees F or above); food in hot box was discarded during inspection (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Establishment does not have a probe type thermometer; a probe type thermometer is needed to test the internal temperature of food (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Observed ice scoop being stored on top of ice machine uncovered; ice scoop should be stored in a way to protect from contamination (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.) Single service cups at self service drink station are not stored in a protective packaging or by other means that protects from contamination of lip contact surface; single service cups should be stored in a way to protect from contamination (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) • Main Street Food Mart, 1620 Main St. Date of inspection Jan. 27. Thermometer not noted in cooler holding milk; thermometer is needed in all coolers holding food that must remain cold (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Pipe in walk in cooler is leaking and needs to be repaired (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Three compartment sink is visibly unclean and needs to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Counter where drink machine is located is unclean and needs to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Restroom door does not have a self closure. Restroom should be provided with a self-closing door (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Some ceiling tiles are missing in dish washing area; ceiling tiles need to be added (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Some floors, especially under all equipment, are unclean and need to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) No lighting observed in room with ice machine; lights needed in room with ice machine (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)


• West Meadows Head Start, 4301 W. 18th Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 27. Restroom door does not have a self closure on it; restroom door should be provided with a self-closing door (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) No current health permit posted in establishment; current health permit should be posted (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)


• Sahara Shrine Center, 820 S. Main St. Date of inspection Jan. 27. No test strips observed during inspection; test strips needed to test for sanitizer strength (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)


• Fast Mart, 2504 S. Cherry St. Date of inspection Jan. 31. Paper towels not observed at hand washing sinks; paper towels needed to dry hands with at all hand washing sinks (Not in compliance.) Soap not observed at hand washing sink near drink machine. Soap needed at hand washing sink near drink machines (Not in compliance.) Ice in ice bags packaged in store are not labeled and should have store identifying information on them (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) • Hope & Faith Learning Center, 1100 E. 36th Ave. Date of inspection Feb. 1. No paper towels observed at hand washing in kitchen. Paper towels were placed at hand washing sink during inspection (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.)


• SEARK Early Childhood Development, 2200 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection Feb. 7. No violations reported.


• Little Caesar’s, 2300 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Feb. 3. No paper towels observed at front hand washing sink; paper towels were put at hand washing sink during inspection (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.) Observed seasonings being stored on shelf in an opened package. After opening package, seasonings should be stored in a sealed, protective container. Seasonings were poured into bulk containers with lids during inspection (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.) Time not being kept on uncooked pizzas sitting out of temperature. Time was placed on pizzas out of temperature during inspection (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.)
