Anniversaries


Living Word Baptist Church, 5617 Sulphur Springs Road, will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Terrance and Shaunder Williams, at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Accie Reynolds Jr., pastor of First Baptist Church at Ladd.


Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church at Calmer will celebrate its 150th anniversary starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Rison Pioneer Village. Tom Letchworth, a traveling United Methodist evangelist, will make a presentation in the old “John Wesley” style preaching. There will be an afternoon of singing by the Bolin Family from Crossett as well as other specials. The church will also host an old-fashioned noon meal and the cost is $10.


Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3700 W. 13th Ave., will celebrate the first pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Travis and Trichell Harden, Sunday, April 9. At 11 a.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Eddie Coleman, associate minister of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church at Camden. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. James Murry, pastor of Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church, accompanied by his congregation.


Polk Chapel Baptist Church at Star City will celebrate the eighth anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Alvin and Tammy Newburn, at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Donald Manning, pastor of Thomas Chapel Baptist Church at Dumas.


God House of Praise Ministry will celebrate the first anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Robert Burton Sr. and Jenise Burton, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The service will be held at New St. James Baptist Church, 3301 S. Fir St., and the speaker will be the Rev. James Barnes.


Concerts/musicals


The Pine Bluff Women’s Community Choir will rehearse at 7 p.m. Fridays, April 14, 21 and 28, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road. The choir is preparing for its Songs of Praise 61 Concert. All choir members, musicians and potential members are invited to attend. Family Time Baptist Church & Ministries, 501 S. Ohio St., will present its 2017 spring musical at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. Guests will include Mt. Nebo and Mt. Carmel praise dance teams.


Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St., will present its choir annual at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Willie Laws of New Morning Star Baptist Church at Altheimer. Choirs of New Morning Star and New Faith Church will sing.


Allen Temple AME Church, 1123 Virginia St., will host the Men In Black Chorus and other guests during a benefit program for Jamar “Scubby” Lambert, at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 8.


Reynolds Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 706 S. Cypress St., will present a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 9. Guests will include the Little Vessels of First Missionary Baptist Church at Ladd, the Angels of Praise, Hosea Thomas, a deacon.


Easter, Holy week related services


First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at Stuttgart will present an Easter Cantata, “The Day He Wore My Crown,” at 10:45 a.m. on Palm Sunday, April 9. It will be presented by the choir and the guest minister will be Don Warren of Pine Bluff. The service celebrates Jesus’ entrance to Jerusalem, a spokesman said. First Christian Church also invites the community to its Maundy Thursday service at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 13.


The music department of New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church, 3319 S. Ohio St., will host rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 10, at the church for the Community Sunrise Service. The sunrise event will be held at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday, April 16, at Saracen Landing.


New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will host Holy Week services with the following speakers at 7 p.m. on these dates: Monday, the Rev. Robert Iverson of Daniel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church; Tuesday, the Rev. Cleon Morgan of Mt. Sinai Church; Wednesday, the Rev. Walter May of Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church; Thursday, the Rev. Willie Laws of New Morning Star Baptist Church at Altheimer; Friday, the Rev. Woodrow Jackson Jr. of Timothy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church; and Saturday, the Rev. Robert Scott of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church.


Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Altheimer will host Palm Sunday and the Pack-A-Pew/Family and Friends Day at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9, during morning worship.


Old St. James Baptist Church, 1307 W. 16th Ave., will celebrate Good Friday Service at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14. The speaker will be the Rev. John Spicer of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at Gould.


Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 W. Third Ave., will observe Holy Week services. Holy communion will be held at 8 a.m. and a procession with palms and holy communion at 10:30 a.m. Palm Sunday, April 9. Maundy Thursday will be observed at 6 p.m. April 13 with holy communion and stripping of the altar. On Good Friday, April 14, services will be held at noon with the church open for prayer/meditation until 3 p.m.


The music ministry of First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel St., will host a Good Friday presentation, “For God So Loved the World: A Tenebrae Service,” at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14. According to a spokesman, the narrated musical service represents the darkness that fell over the earth as Christ was crucified. This service of worship will be solemn and participants are asked to enter the sanctuary in silent meditation and leave in silent reflection.


Men’s/women’s events


Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in the Pastoria community will present its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Robert L. Willis Jr., pastor of Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


New Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 3800 Fir St. is hosting its 4th annual women’s conference from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8. Guest presenters are Verna Jean Brooks, an evangelist of First Trinity Church of God in Christ; Latasha Jenkins of Eudora Missionary Baptist Church, and Ellen Harbin, an evangelist of Star Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Greenville, Mississippi. Voices of Deliverance will sing and lunch will be served.


Corinth Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will present its annual men’s and women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The speaker will be the Rev. Clark Thomas, pastor of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill.


Bethlehem Worship Center at Dumas will celebrate its 2017 women’s conference. During brunch Saturday morning, April 8, speakers will be Johnnie Harris, Meia Hellums and Shirley Phillips. Sunday morning, April 9, the speaker will be the first lady, Linda Jones of Bethlehem. At 3 p.m. Sunday, the speaker will be Amanda Glass, first lady of There Is Hope Church of God in Christ.


Revivals


Traveler’s Rest Missionary Baptist Church at Grady will host Holy Week revival with the following speakers at 7 p.m. on these dates: Monday, the Rev. William Eldridge; Tuesday, the Rev. Antonio Robinson; Wednesday, the Rev. Audrea Johnson; Thursday, the Rev. Bruce Johnson; and Friday, the Rev. Donyardo Wallace.


St. Andrew AME Church, 701 Franklin St., will hold Holy Week revival starting at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 9. praise service begins at 6:45 p.m. followed by worship at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 10-11. The evangelist will be the Rev. Kent J. Broughton Sr., presiding elder of the Camden/El Dorado District of the West Arkansas Conference.


Special events


New Community Baptist Church, 321 N. Birch St., will conduct its annual Raising the Standard Conference. Intercessory prayer begins at 6 p.m. and services at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The guest speaker will be Renee Winston, the shepherd of Abundant Remnant Ministries of San Francisco, California.


Prairie Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 2611 Indiana St., will host its annual family and friends day at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Daryl Graydon, pastor of Greater First Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


Mt. Bayou Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will present its family and friends day at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest minister will be the Rev. Jessie Washington, senior pastor at Bethel AME Church at Fountain Hill.


St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church, 5810 Malcomb St., will sponsor its ushers’ annual at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest minister will be the Rev. Tommy Breamsey, pastor of First Baptist Church (Dew Drop).


Bethany Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1923 S. Olive St., will host its first Silver Saints Sunday at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 23, honoring citizens ages 65 and older who have made a positive impact in the community. Jefferson County Judge and the Rev. Hank Wilkins IV will be the keynote speaker. All nominees will be recognized. First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, will observe its Deacons’ and Deaconesses’ program at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Lorenzo Jones of Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church.


New Town Missionary Baptist Church, 3600 W. Second Ave., will host the Rev. Xavier Diamond, associate minister of St. Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas, at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9.


Turning Point International Outreach Ministries will present the Year of Release 2017 at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 14-15, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 16. Services will be held at 4511 Faucett Road, formerly Christian Outreach Church, and the guest speaker will be Earl Robinson, a prophet from Jacksonville, Florida.


Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 2915 S. Main St., will host a musician’s appreciation service for Larry Taggart at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Aaron Barnes, pastor of New Home Missionary Baptist Church.


Union Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will present a musician’s appreciation program for Melvin and John Crockett at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Isaiah Bennett, pastor of Greater New Hope Baptist Church at Little Rock.


Mt. Pleasant AME Church, 1201 N. Magnolia St., will host events sponsored by the Pine Bluff-Helena District of the East Arkansas Conference in conjunction with the 12th Episcopal District Christian Education Department. Saturday, April 8, workshops on discipleship will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon by the Rev. Lanette Frazier, pastor of Wesley Chapel AME Church at Marvell, and the Rev. Cecil L. Williams Jr., pastor of St. John AME Church. At noon, the Rev. Charlene Boone, pastor of Greater Ward Chapel AME Church, will be the guest preacher for the worship service.
