The Progressive Women’s Association recently voted to host its Business Associate/Women of the Year Banquet on May 16.
They will honor Anderson Electric (Darrell and Sandra Anderson — owners) as the Business Associate of the Year. The Andersons have been scholarship donors and ad donors for at least 30 years. The Woman of the Year honoree will be revealed at the banquet.
The Progressive Women’s Association met recently at the Relyance Bank in White Hall for the annual spring enrollment luncheon and meeting.
Delois Dilbeck, president, conducted the business session. It was announced that Hershel Douthit had donated $100 to the scholarship fund in memory of his wife, Ann Douthit, who contributed so much to the success of this organization, according to a spokeswoman.
Dottie Yarbrough, Community Service Chairwoman, thanked everyone for donating non-perishable, child friendly food for needy children at Taylor Elementary School to take home over the week-end. The next three months, the organization will bring money for bingo prizes for the nursing homes.
A White Elephant Sale was held after the meeting. The proceeds from the sale will be donated to the scholarship fund. Bernice “Betsy” Foster and Bee Bee Fenters were the auctioneers.
Della Lovorn won the Dollar Pot. Alice Erwin and Delois Dilbeck won the door prizes.
Tiffany Jackson (Alice Erwin’s grandaughter) and Marcia Shepard (Alice Erwin’s and Louise LaGrone’s sister-in-law) were guests at the luncheon and meeting.
The meeting room was decorated with spring flower pots and pastel tablecloths. Fried chicken, provided by the Progressive Women’s Association’s Board, was the main dish.
