In the first game of a double header Thursday between the visiting Sheridan Yellowjackets (18-4, 5-0) and the Watson Chapel Wildcats (11-7, 4-1), Tyler Cleveland pitched a one-hit shutout to help his team earn a district road victory by a final of 1-0.
The Yellowjackets capitalized on two costly errors in the top of the second inning. Chance Wallingsford drove in the only run of the game to give his team the lead early in the second inning. Cleveland dominated as he allowed only one hit while striking out eight batters.
His opposition in the pitchers' duel, Kaleb Hill was on the mound for the Wildcats. The Ole Miss commit pitched five innings, allowing three hits and one run. Scott Taylor pitched the final two innings for Chapel.
Hill struck out two batters.
Gianti Turner accounted for Watson Chapel’s only hit of the game. Watson Chapel will now prepare for a battle with their crosstown rivals on Tuesday, the White Hall Bulldogs.
