After almost a week off from play, the Pine Bluff Zebras hosted the Little Rock McClellan Lions Tuesday afternoon in a district doubleheader. The Zebras took a 12-0 victory over the Lions in the first of two games.
Rod Stinson Jr. was solid on the mound for the Zebras. He pitched a five inning no-hitter while striking out eight batters. Pine Bluff head coach Ryan Stinson said he was proud to see the effort from the mound.
"He did a good job, he's just trying to get some work in," Stinson said. "I'm pleased with the outing. We're just trying to get better everyday."
In the third inning, the Zebras scored seven runs to break away from the Lions. Senior Brandon Little hit a two-run single to highlight the inning.
The Zebras dominated at the plate with 11 hits. Little led the team with three hits and two RBI's. Wesley Hunt and Cameron Crane accounted for two RBI's as well.
Kelon Jones was on the mound for Little Rock McClellan. He struck out one batter and allowed 11 hits.
"We did okay," said Stinson. "We did what we were supposed to do, came out and played baseball and got a win. That's all you can ask for. We just have to get better each and everyday."
The second game of the doubleheader was rained out in the bottom of the first inning. It has been rescheduled to be played Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Pine Bluff.
