Janis F. Kearney will be the featured author for the book review at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at First Baptist Church, 6501 Hazel St.
“The author will discuss her research into the early life of Mahalia Jackson, the world’s Queen of Gospel,” according to a news release.
Kearney began her research on the gospel singer’s early life after visiting her former residence in Chicago and being given documents of Jackson’s life.
“In 1928, at the age of 16, Mahalia Jackson traveled on train from New Orleans to Chicago. She resided there until her death in 1972. Few people realize the amazing back story behind the statuesque singer’s big voice and even bigger smile,” Kearney said in the release.
Kearney will also have copies of her other books, including “Cotton Field of Dreams,” and “Sundays with TJ,” available for sale and signing.
The book review will be held in the fellowship hall of First Baptist and refreshments will be served.
