Walt Coleman III, National Football League referee and family operator of Hiland Dairy in Little Rock, will be the guest speaker at the annual Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon.
Sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Van Buren, the luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, in the Commons at Van Buren High School.
Tickets will be $15 and available in May at Swaim Office Products, Joseph Rhodes State Farm and Boys and Girls Club of Van Buren.
Table sponsorships, which include signage recognition and seating for six, are available for $200.
Proceeds from the Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon help support the Kiwanis Club and its efforts to promote character and leadership skills with the K-Kids programs in Van Buren elementary schools.
Coleman will share his experiences and observations about the game of football and life, said Tonia Fry, president of Kiwanis Club.
Officiating in the NFL since 1989, Coleman has refereed 26 years of pre-season and regular season games, nine divisional playoffs, six wild card playoffs and two conference championships and was an alternate in Super Bowls XXXIV and XLII.
Coleman said he has been “applauded by hundreds and booed by millions,” and thanks to television, has annually visited nearly every home in America since he began his officiating career. He referees wearing number 65.
Since 1974, Coleman has been a fifth-generation participant in the dairy business, and currently serves as controller at Hiland Dairy. Walt holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with honors from the University of Arkansas.
Coleman lives in Little Rock with his wife Cynthia and is active in the Little Rock community, serving on a variety of boards and associations.
Some offices Coleman has held include former president of the Major Sports Association of Greater Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and the Arkansas Dairy Products Association, and former board member of the Milk Industry Foundation-Washington DC.
Coleman currently is a board member of the Little Rock Boys and Girls Club and a former chairman of the Arkansas Area Council of Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
