Temperatures are warming, mowing season has started, and flowers are in bloom. These telltale signs of spring mean the festival/tourist season in Cleburne is underway and kicking off this season will be Springfest 2017 at Spring Park in Heber Springs. This year marks the 30th year for the popular local festival and organizers have a plethora of new events and attractions for this year's crowd.
"This will be our 30th anniversary and it's going to be a great year," said Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce Director Julie Murray. "This year we'll have a great magician, Cedric Morely. He puts on a fantastic show and creates amazing balloon animals. You won't want to miss it. Also new this year will be Grace Stormont, a very talented musician from Mountain View."
"We'll also have some of our classics, like the popular Jubilation Jazz band," she continued. "Ronald McDonald will perform and hold a meet and greet with the crowd. We'll have bounce houses for the kids, but this year there will be some new and exciting things with those. You'll want to bring your kids to check it out."
This year's event will also have the ever popular butterfly tent, the VW car show, Ride Like a Mountain Man bicycle ride, the classic car show, and the petting zoo. And Springfest wouldn't be complete without the vendors.
"We have a ton of new vendors this year," said Murray. "Some of the old favorites will be returning, but I would say we have more new vendors than returning. We're really excited about that and we think the public will be too."
In conjunction with Springfest, Downtown Heber Springs will be holding the Spring Fling. Participating merchants will be holding special sales to get into the spirit of spring.
Springfest will take place Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29. Cedric Morely will perform on that Friday from 5-6 p.m. On Saturday, Ronald McDonald will entertain from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Jubilation Jazz Band will perform from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Grace Stormont will take the stage from 3 p.m to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
