The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.


The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:


• Burger King, 400 N. Blake St. Date of inspection April 25. Observation: Need to clean non-food contact surface — ice machine, counter tops (Not in compliance; repeat violation; corrected on site during inspection.) There are some missing floor tiles that need to be repaired/replaced (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)


• Mammouth Orange, 1315 Donna Drive, Redfield. Date of inspection April 25. Need thermometers in all coolers to ensure proper holding temperatures (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Food must be stored in compliance with established regulations; should be at least six inches above the floor (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Observation: Make sure automatic dispensing of detergents and sanitizers are working properly (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Observation: Needs to clean refrigerator in the kitchen area (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)


• Pine Bluff Senior High, 10th Avenue and Laurel Street. Date of inspection April 27. Observed sliced deli meats in walk in cooler with no date marking. Sliced meats not used within 24 hours should be date marked and discarded after 7 days. Employee put date marking on sliced deli meats during inspection (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Observed ice scoop stored directly on top of ice machine. Ice scoop should be stored in a way to protect it from contamination (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Personal fans are unclean and need to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Floors in dry storage under shelving is unclean and needs to be cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)


• Hazel Street Food Mart, 2201 W. 17th Ave. Date of follow-up inspection April 28. Some ceiling tiles are damaged in kitchen area. Damaged ceiling tiles should be replaced (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)


• Pine Bluff Northern League, Townsend Park. Date of inspection April 28. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each hand-washing sink in food preparation, toilet and ware-washing areas. Observation: Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing solution concentration (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Observation: No current health permit posted.


• First Baptist Church Preschool, 8708 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection May 2. No violations reported.


• Huddle House - White Hall, 7735 Sheridan Road, 103 Woodberry Court, White Hall. Date of inspection into complaint. May 3. No violations pertaining to complaint noted during inspection.


• SE ARK Livestock Concession, Hestand Stadium. Date of inspection May 3. No violations observed during time of inspection.


• Jefferson Regional Medical Center, 1600 W. 40th Ave. Date of follow-up inspection May 4. No violations reported.


• Busy Bee Learning Academy, 620 S. Poplar St. Date of inspection May 1. Need to check cooler for proper cold holding temperatures. TCS foods shall be thawed using an approved method (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Food must be stored in compliance with established regulations. Food is being stored on the floor. Should be stored at least 6 inches above the floor (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)
