Mother’s Day events

Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 1305 W. 16th Ave., will present its Mother’s Day/Homecoming Celebration at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 14. The speaker will be the Rev. David M. Smith, pastor of Old St. James.

Timothy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1304 S. Apple St., will conduct a Mother’s Day Candlelight Service at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 14. A presentation will be given about several women of the Bible.

A Place of Hope Christian Center, 917 Scull St., will present a Mother’s Day service at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 14. The speaker will be Brenda Gray, a minister at the church.

Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will celebrate Mother’s Day at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 14. The guest speaker will be Ruby Christopher from Greater Mt. Eagle Baptist Church at Chicago, Illinois.

Ezekiel Missionary Baptist Church, 121 W. Martin Place, will honor mothers at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 14. The speaker will be Barbara Rogers.


Family Time Baptist Church & Ministries, 501 Ohio St., will begin the 20th pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Micheal E. Williams Sr. and family at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, with ministers’ night featuring a ministers’ choir directed by the Rev. Johnny Smith, pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The choir rehearsal will be at 7 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Family Time. Saturday, May 20, the First Lady and Pastor’s Community Family Fun Event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside across from the church (or inside the church if it rains.) The free event will include music, food, games and prizes for all ages.

Greater First Missionary Baptist Church, 601 Laurel St., at Pine Bluff, will begin the celebration of 43 years of ministry of the Rev. George and Meta Glass, pastor and wife of Greater Word of Life Ministries of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At 6 p.m. Saturday, May 13, an appreciation musical will include guest choirs from First Baptist Church at Ladd, Greater First, Prairie Lake and Union Baptist, all of Pine Bluff.

Women’s events

The woman’s missionary auxiliary of Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., will observe the Baptist Woman’s Day of Prayer from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 15.

Greater Ward Chapel AME Church, 3700 W. Sixth Ave., will sponsor a women’s retreat from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20. Registration is $20. Presenters include Bessie Lancelin and Sheila Washington.


Greater Deliverance Global Ministries, 2215 E. Harding Ave., will host its spring revival at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, May 17-19. The guest evangelist will be Chester Bell, an apostle, from Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2401 Port Road, will host revival at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, May 15-17. The guest evangelist will be the Rev. Leon Williams Sr., pastor of True Vine “E” Missionary Baptist Church.

Special events

Timothy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1304 S. Apple St., will hold a building fund program at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20. Singers will include Faith of Harmony, the Spiritualettes and Timothy Chapel.

Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in the Pastoria community will observe Family and Friends Day during worship services at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 14.

New Town Missionary Baptist Church, 3600 W. Second Ave., will host the Rev. Willie Laws of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer, at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 14.

Old Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 3116 Port Road, will host the Greater St. Marion District Leadership and Spiritual Enhancement Conference. The sessions will be held Saturday, May 20, starting at 8:30 a.m. with registration and classes begin at 9 a.m. Registration is $25. Church Administration class will be taught by the Rev. Ronald Laurent, pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church at Holly Grove. Church and Clergy Conflict class will be taught by the Rev. Glenn Barnes Sr., pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
