Southwood Elementary School still has seats available for the free Online Summer Reading program. The event is held at the Pine Bluff School District’s Jordan/Chaney Administration Building, 1215 W. Pullen St., from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.

Available seats will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Snacks will be served each day. The program is open and free to students entering kindergarten for the 2017-18 school year.

A computer generated assessment will diagnose each student’s skill level and then prescribe a course of study that will enhance each student’s level of proficiency, according to a news release. Each participant will receive a free personal set of books to take home.

Crystal Morris, the site facilitator, said students and parents seem excited about the program. Activities also include songs, carpet time and reading circles.

The summer reading program is presented by the University of Central Arkansas, Outreach and Community Engagement. It is funded by Title I as part of Southwood Elementary School’s 2016-17 ACSIP Plan, according to the news release.
