Anniversaries


St. Paul AME Church, 4143 Highway 190, will celebrate its 143rd anniversary at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2. The guest minister will be the Rev. Reginald Alexander Sr. of Mt. Pleasant AME Church.


Musicals


Family Time Baptist Church and Ministries, 501 St. Ohio St., will host the Pine Bluff Quartet Local at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 2. Singers will include Men In Christ, Union Choir, Spiritualettes and Mighty True Lights.


Special events


Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2101 W Reeker Ave., will host the 39th Barnes Family Reunion beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, June 30, with the banquet honoring the Rev. George Barnes Sr. for 50 years in ministry. Saturday, July 1, the 93rd birthday celebration for the mother, Viola Barnes, will be observed at 11 a.m. The event will include a family picnic and games. At 7 p.m. Saturday, the event will be held at the bowling alley where trophies will be awarded. At 11 a.m. Sunday, July 2, worship will be held at Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer and the speaker will be the Rev. Rayford Barnes. At 3 p.m. Sunday, the reunion concludes at Pine Hill with singing by the Barnes Family Choir and Stellar Award Winner Lemmie Barnes Battles.


Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will host an ordination service for the Rev. Eric Walden at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 2. The special guest will be the Rev. Julius McDade, pastor of New Direction MIssionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., will present its annual ushers’ program at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 2. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Travis Harden, pastor of Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.


St. Luke AME Church, 9908 Princeton Pike, will host members of the Bishop Family reunion at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 2. The guest speaker will be Shujuan Washington, a minister from Douglasville, Geogia. The service is the culminating event of the reunion for the descendants of Roscue and Thressie Bishop. They are celebrating their first family reunion Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Participants are expected from Kansas, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan, Texas, Ohio, Illinois and Arkansas. Various activities are planned for the weekend.


Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2101 W Reeker Ave., will host the Multi-District Congress of Christian Education. Services opens at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 9. Classes will be held at 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 10-13. Online registration and course offerings are available at the webiste www.consolidatedstmarionbaptistdistrict.com and at each membership church. The Rev. Kirby Gulley is the lead dean for the congress.


Women’s services


Timothy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1304 S. Apple St., will present its first women/young women’s conference. At 5 p.m. Friday, June 30, registration begins and the costs are $10 for women and $5 for young women. The guest speaker will be Ruby Shepherd, a missionary from Word-A-Flame Church at Little Rock. At 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1, the guest speaker will be Debra Canagan of Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church. At 3 p.m. Sunday, July 2, the women’s day service will feature Isabella Hawkins of Barnett Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.


Youth


New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will hold youth day at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Amelio Howard, pastor of Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff, accompanied by his congregation.


Nu-Bread of Life Missionary Baptist Church, 1711 W. 13th Ave., will celebrate youth and children’s day at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 2. The sermon will be by the pastor, the Rev. Sammie Smith Jr.
