The Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, is accepting nominations for the 2018 Governor’s Arts Awards. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Aug. 4.

According to a news release, the annual awards recognize Arkansas artists, patrons, arts educators and corporations for their outstanding contributions to the arts community.

Nomination categories include: Arts Community Development, Arts in Education, Corporate Sponsorship of the Arts, Individual Artist, Folklife, Patron and Lifetime Achievement.

“We are fortunate to have an abundance of talented artists, arts educators and arts supporters in the state,” said Stacy Hurst, director of the Department of Arkansas Heritage. “Please help us celebrate the arts in Arkansas by nominating candidates for the 2018 Governor’s Arts Awards.”

A panel from the Arkansas arts community reviews the nominations and the winners will be honored at an awards ceremony in the spring. Each nomination will be judged on the significance of the contributions made, the range of the individuals and groups served and the length of time and degree of the activity or contributions.

Nominees must be current Arkansas residents or Arkansas-based corporations. Nomination forms are available online at www.arkansasarts.org or by contacting Cheri Leffew at cheri.leffew@arkansas.gov or 501-324-9767.
