The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff National Alumni Association will present its 28th Annual National Alumni Summer Conference Thursday through Saturday, July 20-22, at Pine Bluff.


Hosted by the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County UAPB/AM&N Alumni Chapter, the theme will be “Building on Our Past, Enhancing Our Future.”


Thursday, July 20


The conference will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a welcome reception at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.


Friday, July 21


The first general session will begin with a continental breakfast, greetings from Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington followed by professional workshops and an afternoon luncheon.


At 6 p.m., a tour will be held of UAPB’s museum and gallery along with an unveiling ceremony and reception in the Leedell Moorehead-Graham Fine Arts Gallery of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. A bust in the likeness and memory of Pearlie S. Reed will be unveiled at the event. Reed was a former U.S. Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary and UAPB graduate.


“Mr. Reed’s memory will be honored and forever live in one of the places he treasured most, on the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff campus,” a spokesman said.


Saturday, July 22


A breakfast will be held at the Pine Bluff Convention Center followed by the second general session at the UAPB STEM Conference Center for UAPB Day. Chancellor Laurence B. Alexander will welcome participants to UAPB Day to receive department updates from the UAPB Foundation Fund Board, Office of Development, Finance and Administration, Athletics Department, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Enrollment, and the Chancellor’s State of the University address.


There will also be a recruitment fair and tour of the university for high school students and incoming UAPB students. For more information on the Recruitment Fair, contact the Office of Recruitment at 870-575-8960.


At 7 p.m., the conference will conclude with the Chairman’s Circle of Excellence Award Banquet and Dance at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
