First Ward Multi-purpose Community Center, operated by Debra Allen, founder and CEO, held a food giveaway at Southeast Middle School last week. The center services over 100 families with food. The program will provide two food giveaways a month, with the next one held on Aug. 12.

In addition, the center is providing hot meals on Saturdays, starting Saturday, July 16. Meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. free of charge. Jefferson County Judge Henry “Hank” Wilkins IV stopped by and donated $200 dollars to the centerto help with upcoming events.

“I am challenging all local officials to donate to a local program in our community, like the one Mrs. Allen is running to help feed local families in need,” Wilkins said.
