The 2017 Small Works on Paper visual art exhibition will open Thursday, July 20, at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St. The exhibit will be open through Saturday, Aug. 26.

“Now in its 30th year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition that showcases artwork no larger than 18 x 24 inches by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery showcasing the artwork of Arkansas artists,” according to a news release.

The project features 36 works in the year-long show that will travel to 10 galleries throughout Arkansas.

Entries were juried by David Houston, executive director of The Bo Bartlett Center at Columbus State University’s College of the Arts in Columbus, Ga.

Houston selected five artists to receive purchase awards, the cash amount equivalent to the value of their selected works.

Purchase award recipients are Sandy Barksdale of Cotter, J.P. Bell of Fayetteville, Kristin DeGeorge of Hot Springs, Leah Grant of Arkadelphia and Daniella Napolitano of Little Rock.

Funded by entry fees, the purchase award pieces become part of the exhibition’s permanent collection, according to the release.

Gallery hours at the Arts & Science Center at Pine Bluff are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
