The community is invited to the Happy Kids Conference 2017 will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Motel 6 near The Pines mall.

The purpose of the conference is to help youth discover, discuss and demonstrate behaviors that will help them make decisions leading them to living happier lives, according to a news release.

The event is sponsored by Alfred Carroll Ministries and the Rev. Alfred Carroll is the conference organizer.

Presenters include Tatyana Griffin, a freshman at Pine Bluff High School and author of “The Heart Is The Key.” The luncheon address will be by Catherine Shorter, a 2017 graduate of Dollarway High School and member of Targeting Our People’s Priorities with Service Inc. (TOPPS) Dream (Dreams Require Educating and Motivating Students) Team.

Other presenters include the Rev. Anthony Anderson, Vivian Carroll-Jones, Boy Scouts of America, Ambassadors for Christ, Sylvia Grady, Glenda Foots and Dalan M. Williams.

Participants will also be introduced to the works of Steven Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”; Jawanza Kunjufu’s “To Be Popular or Smart”; The Black Peer Group; and Sidney Moncrief’s “Be a Game Changer.”

After various events, attendees may swim or participate in other outside recreational activities. Also, recreational reading books will be available from Hearnes Gallery of Little Rock.

“Much has been done to combat childhood obesity because as a society we saw a problem and came together to improve the physical health of our youth,” Carroll said. “The same is true when it comes to the emotional health of our youth. The poor emotional health of our youth shows up in dysfunctional homes, youth suicide, disciplinary problems at school, violence on the streets and the abandonment of religious affiliations.”

The Happy Kids Conference wants to call attention to these issues. Carroll said he hopes this will be the start of many actions to address these issues.

Although scholarships are available, the cost is $20. Limited seats are available. Details: 870-692-9039.
