The Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity Inc. Board of Directors will host a Blessing and Dedication of House #13 at 2800 W. Ninth Ave. at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15.

The home is for Janell Canada and family (her mother, Laura Thomas and her son, Rayce.) Volunteers, under the supervision of board member Leroy Dorn Sr., assisted the family with the construction of the home, according to a press release.

The home is a three bedroom, two bath structure built on two lots donated by the city of Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Commission.

Financial donors included the city of Pine Bluff Economic and Community Development Department, Arkansas Community Foundation, Synergy and the Fund for Humanity, which consists of mortgage payments received each month from the other partnering Habitat families, according to the release.

“Numerous individuals and organizations have made financial donations or household donations to include washer/dryer, security doors and blinds,” a spokeswoman said.

The home will be dedicated in honor of Gene Hudson, executive vice president of the Jefferson County Habitat board.

“Also, there will be the burning of three mortgages — House #2, House #4, and House #5. All of these homeowners finished paying for their homes years earlier than allowed,” a spokeswoman said.
