Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the merger of Good Faith and Carr Memorial United Methodist Church with a special worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 30.

Good Faith Carr is located at 3703 Ryburn Road at the corner of U.S. 79 and Interstate 530 in Pine Bluff. A picnic lunch will begin immediately after service.

The Rev. Fred Arnold will be the guest speaker and Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington will discuss the Go Forward Pine Bluff Movement, according to a church spokesman.

At the time of the merger, the Revs. Mary Susan Hilliard and George Odell were the pastors of the two churches. Odell was named the pastor at the new combined congregation. The Rev. Robert Lyons is the current minister.

“The church, in the years since the merger, has introduced two successful community-wide projects. The Pumpkin Patch was first activated in 2010, and this year an outdoor food pantry was added,” the spokesman said.

Attendance at the pumpkin patch has steadily grown over the years and children from area schools look forward to the opening each year, according to workers at the event.

Proceeds from the event go to help area groups such as Neighbor to Neighbor, the Salvation Army and others who give back to the community, the spokesman said.

The pantry is still being tested to determine which non-perishable products are most needed, according to Missions chairwomen Kay Miller and Charlotte Townsend.

“People are definitely using the pantry and others are adding foods for the community to take,” according to the spokesman.
