Pine Bluff police have arrested a man on a capital murder charge in connection with the Saturday shooting death of 19-year-old Zaaria Johnson.

Jalin Reynolds, also 19, is being held at the Jefferson County Adult Detention Center.

According to a police report, at about 6:14 p.m. Saturday, a PBPD officer was flagged down at the corner of 17th and Elm Street. The officer found Reynolds lying face down near the intersection. She had been shot several times but was still alive, police said.

She died a a short time later at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Witnesses identified Reynolds as the shooter, according to the police report. Witnesses also said that Johnson and Reynolds had an argument, which turned physical, about Johnson fighting the mother of Reynolds' child.

According to a police report, witnesses also said that "Ms. Johnson ran up and struck Mr. Reynolds in the face, and Mr. Reynolds went back to his vehicle, grabbed a rifle and fired round one in the air. Witnesses also stated that after Mr. Reynolds fired the one shot in the air, he turned and fired one shot at Ms. Johnson, knocking her to the ground.

"Witnesses stated that after Ms. Johnson fell, Mr. Reynolds stood over Ms. Johnson and continued to shoot Ms. Johnson multiple times. Witnesses stated that after Mr. Reynolds shot Ms. Johnson, he got back into his vehicle and fled from the scene."
