Glen Brown Sr. has announced plans to seek a seat on the Pine Bluff City Council in the upcoming election.
Brown, a Democrat, has previously served four terms on the Jefferson County Quorum Court and eight years on the City Council in Ward 3, Position 1. Brown made a bid to be re-elected to the council in 2016, but his efforts were impeded by a small margin to Donald Hatchett.
He is currently seeking a term on the Pine Bluff City Council in Ward 3, Position 2. That position is currently held by Alderman Bill Brumett.
“Brown's interest in the development of Pine Bluff has never wavered,” a news release said. “He gains inspiration from calls from citizens who continue to seek his help with various problems. He prides himself on responding quickly to help resolve the issues. He said, 'My passion is helping people and making life better for the city of Pine Bluff.'”
Brown said in the news release that “I look forward to continuing to represent everyone in Pine Bluff fairly.”
The release continued: “Brown truly believes in the progression of Pine Bluff and working hard to improve the 'Quality of Life' through the promotion of recreational facilities, shopping areas, restaurants, and job creation.
“Brown state that Pine Bluff still needs a variety of restaurants, better shopping areas, more recreational facilities, and upgrades on streets and traffic lights. The parks have improved, but could be better. I would love to have the opportunity to help with these improvements. Brown says his goal is to help secure a grant writer to help Pine Bluff gain the funds that they are entitled to receive.
“Crime continues to be a problem, but we have a great police department that is working hard to combat crime and repair the reputation of our great city.
“While serving on the City Council, Brown served as chairman of the Economic Development and Aviation Committees. I worked tirelessly with other council members to make great strides to move Pine Bluff in a positive direction. We passed ordinances and resolutions to make Pine Bluff a community that we could all be proud of.
“It will be a great privilege for me as I strive to continue to serve my community and the residents of Ward 3. I pledge to listen openly to the concerns of all our community members and be a strong voice for their concerns. I have a vision of helping to build a better Pine Bluff, one that thrives economically and maintains a feeling of 'Quality of Life' in our neighborhoods.
“Brown, a proud UAPB graduate, believes his record of being a passionate advocate for a better Pine Bluff and being accessible to the citizens of Pine Bluff and Ward 3, speaks for itself.
“We live in a great city that I truly love! Let's continue to work together to make it an even better place to live, work and grow!
“Brown is married to the former Clara Gardner. They have two sons, Alderman Glen Brown Jr. and Gavin Brown and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Glen III 'Trey.'”
