Anniversaries


New Derrissaux Missionary Baptist Church will hold the 28th anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Freddie L. and Kathy P. Webb, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St. The guest speaker will be the Rev. LeArthur Shelton, pastor of Lampkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Guests will also include the Webb Sisters and Men in Black.


Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Tarry will celebrate the second anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. John and Merle Bush. Services will be held at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow beginning with ministers’ night at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, with the Rev. Anthony Walker, pastor of Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church, as the guest speaker. At 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, the speaker will be the Rev. David L. Marks, pastor of Cherry Hill church.


Word of Faith Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1108 S. Poplar St., will present an appreciation program for the pastor and wife, Henry Land Jr. and Verna Land, Sunday, Aug. 27. At 10:45 a.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Kenneth Harris, associate minister at Indiana Street Baptist Church. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Tommy Breamsey, pastor of First Baptist Church (Dew Drop), accompanied by his congregation.


Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church, 2312 Fluker St., will celebrate its 96th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Kenneth Jones, pastor of Watkins Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.


New Direction Missionary Baptist Church, 3000 S. Louisiana St., will host a Celebration of Love for the first lady at noon Saturday, Aug. 26, as part of the pastoral anniversary for the Rev. and Mrs. Julius McDade Sr. A pre-anniversary will also be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, and the guest preacher will be the Rev. Sean Jarrett, pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma.


St. Andrew AME Church, 701 Franklin St., will celebrate its 74th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Marcia Burns, pastor of Lee Chapel AME Church at North Little Rock, accompanied by the Lee Chapel choir.


Concerts


Immanuel Baptist Church, 1801 W. 17th Ave., will present a community concert at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, featuring Enoch Fernando, an international award-winning recording artist, composer and communicator. He has been nominated twice for Grammy Awards.


Union Missionary Baptist Church, 609 E. 24th Ave., will celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Micheal Williams, pastor of Family Time Baptist Church & Ministries.


St. Ollie Missionary Baptist Church at Star City will host the Big Creek and Reedville District annual Singing and Usher Convention starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25. From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 26, the usher convention will be led by the Rev. Brames Jackson, district usher president. At 1 p.m. Saturday, the singing convention will be led by the Rev. Donald Barnett, music/singing president, and at 4 p.m. the concert will be held featuring various choirs.


New Cheeks Chapel AME Church at Sherrill will host the Pastoria Singing Union worship service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27.


New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St., will host the reunion concert celebration honoring Virtuous at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26. Guests will include Ricky Burton & Ministry, the Singing Revs, Hayes Family and Keenon Coleman & Company.


St. Luke AME Church, 9908 Princeton Pike, will celebrate the male choir’s sixth anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Chestine Sims, pastor of Bethel AME Church at Little Rock.


Greater Battle Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will observe the mass choir’s 52nd anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Hershel Lovelace of First Liberty Hill Baptist Church at Little Rock.


Men’s/women’s events


Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3700 W. 13th Ave., will present its annual women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be Robbie Williams, first lady of Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, and the guest choir director will be Tina Blair.


Old Morning Star Baptist Church, 3116 Port Road, will observe its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Johnny Morton, pastor of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Dumas. The Southeast Male Chorus will sing.


New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church, 3319 Ohio St., will celebrate women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be Lorene Easter of Holy Cross Baptist Church at Little Rock.


Revivals


St. John Missionary Baptist Church at Mitchellville, will hold revival at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 28-30. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Alvin Newburn, pastor of Polk Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Yorktown.


Special events


Bethany Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1903 Olive St., will continue the annual spiritual revelation conference at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25. The session began Wednesday and the facilitators are Carl and Virginia Desmuke of GMOR (Gospel Ministry Outreach) Theological Institute and Seminary.


Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, 224 N. Cypress St., will celebrate its ushers’ annual at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The Rev. Charles Boyd, pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church of Pine Bluff, and his congregation will the special guests.


First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, will host its ushers’ annual fellowship brunch, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Travis Harden of Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Robin Tisdale will provide the music.


International House of Praise, 1002 E. Eighth Ave., will hold its fourth Sunday deliverance service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be Cheryl Lancaster Townsend, a prophetess.


Barraque Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 W. Pullen St., will host the annual appreciation service for all area school personnel at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Harold Betton, pastor of New Light Missionary Baptist Church at Little Rock. Dr. Betton is in his 40th year as a family physician and his 11th year as an adjunct professor at Arkansas Baptist College.


Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will observe its family and friends day at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Robert Key, associate minister at Lampkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
