Marko Garcia, a technician with CRT Coatings of Knoxville, Tennessee, is testing his work in a Pine Bluff Wastewater Utility manhole at West Third Avenue and Persimmon Street Monday afternoon. Garcia has just applied a primer, a foam layer and a coat of pink polyurethane to the inside of the manhole, which would have had to be replaced if this process were not available. The color pink was selected after the coating manufacturer conducted research and determined that this shade of pink was the brightest color available to enhance visibility in manholes. Twenty four Pine Bluff manholes are scheduled for this treatment. This one is the 12th.
