The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:


• Olive Mart, 2202 S. Olive St. Date of inspection Sept. 6. Food packaged in Retail Food Establishment, shall be labeled as specified in law. Ice should be properly labeled with store information where it was package.


• R B of Little Rock Inc. dba Town & Country, 5000 Middle Warren Road. Date of inspection Sept. 6. Make sure to label food with date as discussed. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with regulations pertaining to retail food establishment. Observation: No current health permit posted.


• SOS Express #2, 3402 Old Warren Road. Date of inspection Sept. 7. Make sure to label food with date as discussed. Three compartment sink is unclean and needs to be cleaned to prevent contamination of equipment and utensils. Observation: Need to clean refrigerator in and out. Observation: The restroom doors do not have self-closures on them. Observation: All trash cans need lids; only need lids if they contain food reside and are not in continuous use. Observation: A valid permit must be posted in view of the public.


• Chapel Food Mart, 5901 Sulphur Springs Road. Date of inspection Sept. 7. Observation: Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing solution concentration. Observation: Need to clean non-food contact surface. Receptacles containing food residue must be kept covered when not in continuous use.


• FB Scholars, 119 W Second Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 7. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each hand-washing sink in food preparation.


• C and D Child Care Center, 4806 W. Ninth Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 8. TCS foods shall be thawed using an approved method. Observation: Air vents need to be cleaned. Observation: No current health permit posted.


• Margie’s House, 5830 U.S. 65 S. Date of inspection Sept. 1. Plywood cutting board needs to be replaced with hardwood or plastic cutting board. Did not see thermometer in cooler; keep one visible.


• University Food Mart, 1702 University Drive. Date of inspection Sept. 6. Discontinue consuming food, use of unapproved beverage containers, or use of tobacco in food preparation or ware-washing area. All employee drinks in food preparation area must have a lid and a straw. Food must be stored in compliance with established regulations. Food is being stored on floor. Should be stored at least six inches above the floor. Observation: Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing solution concentration. Observation: Fans in kitchen area need to be cleaned. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with regulations pertaining to retail food establishment.Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitize solution after each use.


• Country Donuts, 208 N. Blake St. Date of inspection Sept. 8. Need more lighting in establishment. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each hand-washing sink in food preparation, and ware-washing areas.


• L.A. Davis - Aramark, 1301 L.A. Prexy Davis Drive. Date of inspection Sept. 13. Observation: Need to clean wall in kitchen area.


• Southern Edge Truck Stop, 9001 U.S. 63. Date of inspection Sept. 12. Make sure to date mark all food in walk in cooler. Food must be stored six inches from the floor, compliance with established regulations. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with regulations pertaining to retail food establishment.


• Anne’s Country Cafe, 3714 Camden Road. Date of inspection Sept. 11. Provide an adequate supply of hand cleanser (liquid, powder or bar) at each hand-washing sink. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each hand-washing sink in food preparation, and ware-washing areas. Bulk container holding stored ingredients must be labeled with common name of food unless food can be un-mistakenly recognized. Observation: Need to clean non-food contact surface (counter tops.) Need more lighting in establishment. All lighting must have protective covering.
